Ken works in a team of around 100 unpaid volunteers each day with the objective to rescue food headed for landfill, sort the food and create nutritional hampers. Sorting in the warehouse is an ever changing, fast paced environment, which is also strenuous at times. Ken is a tremendous mentor for those around him and can be relied upon at all times. Ken also volunteers at the Aviation Heritage Museum in Bullsbrook and has done for a number of years, where he uses his experience and knowledge as an ex-serviceman.

Isabelle coordinates the partnership between SecondBite and shopping centres, which involves a great deal of time making arrangements with the leaseholders and centre management to ascertain how food rescue can operate in the shopping centres. Isabelle also manages the partnership introduction of the charity and the shopping centre. This ensures wastage goes to those in need and not in the bin. This project is able to continue with many thanks to Isabelle.

Marjorie Charleson was a media & PR trailblazer in 1970’s Golden Era of Perth Racing and went onto to establish “Racebreed Australia” magazine in1998; winning three Belmont Small Business Awards and inducted into the Awards Hall of Fame. Marjorie sponsored the WA Racing Industry Award since 2009. In 2017, Marjorie was presented by Racing and Wagering WA a “Lifetime Achievement Award. Unfortunately, Marjorie passed away this August, and she will be very much missed by all.  This annual award will continue in her memory.

Bernard Ryan served as President of the WA Jockeys Association for 30 years, after initially being elected to the position in 1975. During his time as President, the WA Jockeys Association achieved many goals such as improvements in health and safety for all jockeys and apprentices; equal riding fees for all jockeys; and an insurance and superannuation scheme. In coordination with other jockey associations, the Australian National Jockeys Association and the National Jockeys was also set up. Bernard was also instrumental in encouraging members of the WA Jockeys Association to actively participate in many charity events including Telethon and Appealathon.

Belmont BEC established the Belmont Small Business Awards in 1994 to provide recognition and encouragement for the professionalism of small business achievements. The Judges Award was introduced to acknowledge a deserving small business and its notable achievements.

Owners of Coffee Club Belmont, Preeti and Bindya, moved from South Africa to Australia in 2012 and 2014 respectively, to create a better future for their children. With hardwork and resilience, they grew the business and in 2016 won a trip to Singapore, after winning an instore ‘smashed avo’ promotion. This led onto winning Franchise of the Year WA.  Refurbishments to Belmont Forum meant that the business had to close down, but when reopening finally arrived, Preeti and Bindya worked around the clock to ensure a smooth operation and to re-establish their business with customers. When Covid-19 hit, they were quick to brainstorm ideas on how they could retain business. They quickly joined food delivery services meant that the business could stay afloat during lockdown. Now, the business is operating at 50% of its total seating capacity but has exceeded the year to date sales figures. Well done to  Preeti and Bindya.
